KYIV – In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian officials claim Russia has launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at the city of Dnipro. If confirmed, this would mark the first use of such a weapon in the war, raising serious concerns about the trajectory of the conflict.
Details remain scarce, but Ukrainian authorities reported the attack occurred overnight. The Air Force stated that the ICBM was launched from the Astrakhan region of Russia, alongside other missiles. While Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted several cruise missiles, the ICBM allegedly struck Dnipro.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the nation, stating that the missile used “matches the speed and altitude” of an ICBM. He condemned the attack, emphasizing the gravity of Russia’s actions.
The Kremlin has not yet commented on the incident. International observers are closely monitoring the situation, with concerns that the use of an ICBM could signal a dangerous escalation in the conflict.
ICBMs are designed for long-range strikes and are typically armed with nuclear warheads. However, there is no indication that a nuclear warhead was used in this instance.
The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region. The international community has condemned the alleged ICBM launch, with many calling for restraint and de-escalation.
